KEN WEINKAUF joined our night staff in July 1993. Ken was a resident in 1990-91 and later became a volunteer before joining the night staff team. Ken was invited to be part of the full-time staff in 1995. In 1990 Ken was devastated by a divorce that left him homeless. He came to Good Works and stayed as a resident for nine months while he was trying to get his case heard in court. "I feel a great deal of gratitude to the ministry of Good Works for helping me through my time of trial. My faith in God and humanity was severely tested. But the love, understanding and support of the staff and volunteers helped me through the bad times. To watch an adaptation of Ken's story on YouTube, click here.

"Since 2003, it has been my great joy to use my talents, skills and abilities for the cause of serving the neediest in our neighborhood.  I have found that there are people of faith in our community crying out to God for help, and he has chosen me to facilitate the connection between them and people who desire to serve them.  We call this synergistic connection Samaritan Projects.  It is an awesome challenge, opportunity and responsibility.

"One of the most moving quotes I have read recently is a fictional conversation between someone and God: "So, God, why is there poverty and homelessness in the world?"  God replies, "Yes, why is there poverty and homelessness in the world?"  In other words, there is poverty and homelessness in the world, not because God doesn't care, but because He has chosen us to deliver His care. It is because we are silent and stagnant that there are people without food, clothing or shelter.

"I have recently had a very impacting and life-changing experience I wish to share with you all.  After being single for almost 15 years, my heart and life was captured by a lovely woman I am proud to call my wife, Sherilyn.  You can read about her by clicking here."

Today, Ken serves as the Samaritan Projects Manager, Resource Manager (fixing whatever beeps, buzzes or clicks) and Friday Night Supper Supervisor. Ken is also the Editor and Webmaster of Good Works' website.
