Being a Neighbor Who Serves
Good Works Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) is a volunteer based initiative that seeks to help people in Athens County who have a place to live, but due to financial and physical limitations are not able to care for their property. We seek volunteers to assist our neighbors with these projects. If we do not have volunteers to do these projects, then we are not able to help those in our community struggling under the burden of poverty. By volunteering, you are making a difference in someone’s life. This is a concrete way to love your neighbors by serving them.
The projects that we do for people range from tasks that many people can do such as cleaning, mowing, gardening and yard work, to projects requiring trade skills such as carpentry, roofing, plumbing and electrical work. We often build wheelchair ramps for people which significantly enhances their quality of life.
Individuals, families or groups can serve our neighbors with physical, financial and social limitations. If this would be of interest to you, please read the material regarding Volunteer Opportunities for individuals and Work Retreats for groups.
