Sarah Preston

I grew up in a small town in central Ohio with my Mom. During the summer, I would go to a Christian horse camp one week out of almost every summer on a scholarship. I started going just for the horses and summer fun but, over time, it grew into going for Jesus and the discipleship too. It was here that I found Jesus Christ and accepted him as my personal savior in my mid-teens.

In recent years I moved to Germany and fell in love with the culture and geography. However, this did not satisfy my soul. So I rededicated everything to the Good Lord and moved back to the US where I became a camp counselor at the same camp I found Jesus Christ at. Sharing the Love of God, and doing what Jesus commands us to do in Matthew 28:19, to “go and make disciples”. It was here that my boss told me about Good Works Inc.  So, I prayed to God for discernment to see if he  wanted me to come and serve here.  It turns out He did—and I am all for it!

Now, I am an Appalachian Immersion intern at Good Works Inc. working with the Hannah House and Timothy House teams. So far God has used Good Works Inc. to show me that serving others can be an act of worship to Him, what a community built on God’s love, grace, and mercy looks like, and that He is calling me to ministry work.

One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6 where God tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”. God has taught me this through experience—when I have lacked a bed, a hot meal, a local church body or have had all the amenities I could have ever asked for. We should always try to live how God instructs us to, to follow Jesus Christ, making a habit of trusting God at the center of our being even when our circumstances are uncertain.  Because He has plans to prosper you (us) and not to harm you (us), plans to give you (us) hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).  In my spare time, my hobbies include hiking, video games, reading, cleaning, working with my hands, and accidentally breaking stuff to later fix. I’m passionate about youth ministry, singing, animal science, and horseback riding.
