Michael Adams

Hello, my name is Michael Adams and I am overseeing the Transformation Station at Good Works.

I moved to Athens in 2012 after retiring from a 37 year career with the National Park Service.  My wife Julie had accepted a teaching position at Hocking College and now serves as the Park Naturalist at Burr Oak State Park.  We live just a few miles west of Good Works’ Luhrig Road property  on Rhoric Road.

I had always intended to serve my Lord in some capacity in my retirement. He has given me everything, the least I could do was spend a little time working for Him now.  We joined Central United Methodist Church after moving to Athens, and I began volunteering with the church’s youth and local food pantry ministries.   I was privileged to be asked to serve on the church’s board.

When Central’s youth program transitioned with the graduation of most of our active youth, I began volunteering with Good Works Friday Night Kids Club.  I very quickly came to appreciate the value of this extension of God’s love to local youth.  I have been involved with church youth programing for over 25 years and must say I have never felt as needed as I do in this ministry.  It is a blessing to be part of providing kids with a safe, fun place to hang out and experience God’s love even for an hour or two each week.

Kid’s Club led to volunteering at the Timothy House on Saturday mornings once a month.  When Keith invited us at a volunteer meeting to come and talk to him if we were “wondering what the next step might be”, I felt the Spirit nudge me.  I had been thinking about some part-time work and maybe this was a way of doing that while expanding God’s Kingdom in some small way.

And here I am, doing my best to support the ministry, Work Retreat groups, the Good Works volunteers,  the Transformation Station volunteers, and all who join the community of Good Works in any way I can.

As the old song says,  “On the highway, or the hedges, somewhere I’ll be working for my Lord”.
