Do Good. Love People. Create Hope!
Friday Night Life
Now in year 23, Friday Night life provides a hot, nutritious meal to an estimated 125-150 adults and children every week. After dinner, a wide range of community building activities take place for adults and children of all ages.
Our love for children grows out of our love for Jesus. Friday Night Kids Club and Summer Kids Discovery Club are two different ways we love and serve local children.
The 15th annual Good Works WALK takes place on Saturday February 18th, 2017. The WALK starts and ends at the First UM Church in uptown Athens.
Good Works Gardens
Good Works has established and oversees nearly 17 gardens throughout Athens County. Our summer teen agricultural internship invites local teens to learn about agriculture through a 7 week "hands-on" training experience.
Appalachian Immersion Internship
The A.I. Internship is a 4-9 month residential opportunity. Interns live in the Good Works Hannah House and serve in most of the Good Works contexts.
Keith Wasserman started Good Works in 1981 at the age of 22 in the basement of his home.
THE VISION OF GOOD WORKS is to create and sustain a COMMUNITY OF HOPE with and for people who are struggling with poverty and homelessness in rural Appalachia. As a Christian community, we are seeking to grow in our love for God and for our neighbor. We offer contexts through which people in need can experience biblical hospitality, access practical assistance, and share their gifts / abilities with others. In doing so, we facilitate ways for people from all walks of life to build relationships of love and service with their neighbors.
- Empowering and transforming lives
- Providing shelter for people experiencing homelessness
- Offering life-changing opportunities to love our neighbor
The Mission of Good Works …
Good Works exists to connect people
from all walks of life with people in poverty
so that the kingdom of God can be experienced.
Celebrating 35 years!!
