Week of Service

WEEK OF SERVICE is a unique short-term ministry experience for people who want to experience community as well as participate in several of the Good Works initiatives. Week of Service Interns stay in the Good Works Hannah House (our guest house) and usually share a room with another intern  as they participate in different aspects of Good Works for one week.  Interns typically arrive on a Sunday afternoon and stay to the following Saturday morning.

Who can apply?
Anyone 16 years of age or older can participate in Week of Service. Although it was originally designed for teens that had completed their sophomore year of high school, we have had people in their 70s (and younger) participate in this internship. Regardless of their age, they have had the transforming experience of living in community and sharing their lives with others.

When does this happen?
This volunteer experience can be planned for any time of the year, though there are some times when we discourage Week of Service. The best time is during Summer Service (June and July), which will give you the opportunity to serve beside our summer interns and weekly visiting Work Retreat groups. During the rest of the year, even though there are less people around, you can still be involved in various ministry experiences as well as our weekly staff worship and development gatherings.

Whatever time of the year you choose to be involved with us, we will design a schedule that accommodates your preferences, personal goals, as well as provide a challenge for your personal growth. These are some of the Good Works ministries that you may be involved with:

  • Friday Night Life
  • Friday Night Kids Club
  • Timothy House
  • Neighbors Helping Neighbors and visitation
  • GW development and maintenance projects
  • Hannah House community
  • Neighbors Helping Neighbors
  • The Transformation Station

How can I apply?
The first step in applying is to become more familiar with Good Works by learning more the following areas from our website:

Next, you will need to complete an application, which can be sent to you after you email us about your desire to explore Week of Service. After we receive your application, we will set up and complete a 15-20 minute telephone interview with you. This is your opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. We will seek clarification on some of the issues that you have identified by the answers you give on your application.
